GenCon Events!!!

Year 2000

Brought to you by Web Commando and

Davis Interactive

Soon another glorious GenCon in Milwaukee Wisconsin will be upon us!  If you've encountered me in previous years, you know I normally do about 6 slots.  This year, I'm only doing four.  Fortunately, they are filled with a great Dragonlance adventure and a brand new one--Drago-mon.

The classic "Topknots and Takhisis - Oh My!" will be a favorite for any Kender lovers out there.  It's an adventure designed to let those fun-loving, get-into-trouble, drive-you-crazy, child-like characters let their topknots down.

"Drago-mon - Gotta Kill Them All" is brand new.  Can you guess what its patterned after?

Here I'm Running a Dragonlance 5th Age Adventure
at GenCon '99

This page describes the events I will be running at GenCon in 2000.  You will find links to the characters and introductory material which will help you if your planning on playing my games.  I look forward to meeting you and gaming with you.....

I've left this as one document, so you can print it out if desired.  Check out each of my three events:

They Don't Look Too Tired After Saving Krynn
 at GenCon '99

topnots.gif (2267 bytes)

Description of Event:

Dragonlance fans! Forged in the Age of Might, an artifact is entrusted to several Kender and ragtag friends. Can they protect it from the Dark Queen and save Krynn? Can you survive her minions? Can the other characters survive the Kender?! Fourth year running for this frantic adventure. You'll probably need to come early if you want to play one of the Kender.

Introduction used at GenCon:

A Kender can even get on a cleric of mishikal's bad side. You finally gave into the constant badgering from the three Kender locked up with you. You started with how you found an ancient artifact in a long forgotten tower of high sorcery.

" A magnificent statue of two great weapons melted together. Reorx had welded the weapon used by Palidine and Takhisis together during a great war in ancient times. This artifact contains great power and could possibly solve many of Krynns problems. Alas, I digress....it was foolish to expect that Tahkisis would allow the conclave of wizards to gain control of the device. We were nearing the bottom of the valley when a large force of draconians attacked. There was a small band at the tower, but we thought that was most of them. The Knight fell early in the battle, as a victim to an exploding draconian. Its eirie to these vile creatures destroy life even in their own death. A large dragon attacked from the rear, killing Bess, our archer, quickly. The rest is a blur, but I gather by looking around that most of us made it. Mark my words we must escape and destroy the artifact. What your story, though I'm a bit wary to ask. "

One Kender broke into a long story, starting at his birth. However, another broke in and said, "Most races do not need a reason to put Kender in prison! I like the idea of destroying an artifact, I never did that before, when do we start, how do we do it, can I do it, will it hurt somebody...."

After an hour of questions all drifted to sleep, waiting for an opportunity to escape.

Support Files:

Most people playing the game want to be Kender...why?...Because they are nuts and simply a riot to play!  However, there's only three so plan on coming early and snatching one up!

Drago-mon – Gotta Kill Em All

Description of Event:

You’ve been invited to one of the most prestigious Drago-mon tournaments in all the king’s lands.  Only the best monster trainers and gladiators are allowed to compete against each other in a test of skill.  Con you win the tournament and be crowned master for all the realm?  Perhaps, but first you must survive!

Introduction used at GenCon:

How often have you said, "That DM can't control a monster to save their soul.... If I were DM, then the players would be toasted already!".  Ok, maybe not too often when your a player.  Now you get your chance to control dangerous monsters in a tournament sanctioned by the King.  You'll compete against other top trainers in the a tournament of skill, knowledge, and LUCK.  The idea is roughly based on the Pokemon game.  However, I've never played the card game or any of the video games (I'm just a fan of the animated series and watch it with my daughter all the time) and created an entire set of supporting rules based on how I believe the mechanics should work.  Trust me, it will work pretty well...I also had to create a complete set of rules (including the infamous bag of cheesy poof concept!)  for my South Park adventure a couple years back.

In ancient times the land of Translantia was in constant turmoil.  Great battles between warlords laid waste to the land.  Fertile farmland was reduced to smoldering ruins and noxious clouds drifted across the countryside from great magical battles.    All through this time adventurers traveled the land working as mercenaries and killing any creature that brought fame or some treasure to their pockets.  The landscape was shaped and reshaped and the balance of nature was corrupted as mountains turned to valleys and species began to disappear.

Overtime the people grew weary of the warlords and the constant battles for superiority.  Villagers and Nobles both began looking for a new way to resolve conflicts between folks.

King Loralsangti was a warlord who had gathered much territory by training many of the powerful creatures that inhabited the land to fight with his armies.  He was a highly intelligent man who had shown great wisdom in directing his armies and gathering allies.  At the peak of his power, he asked all the warlords to send emissaries to his castle.  This was a time of great tension and mistrust and many warlords sent large armies to escort the delegates sent.  However, most knew Loralsangti was an honest man who had never used deception on foe or friend, so they came.

Loralsangti’s motives were good; he believed that he had discovered the way to save the land of Translantia.  After the delegates were comfortable and enjoyed the hospitality of their host, Loralsangti sprung his idea:

“My fellow Nobels and eminent guests, I am truly pleased that you have come to listen to me.  We all know the trouble this great land is in.  The once-fertile land of Grainsbounty has been a desert for longer than most of us have been alive.  My grandfather told me of it, how it fed nearly all in the old-times, the ancient times.”

“Let me get to the point.  These wars must stop, or everyone will die of starvation, poisoning, or worse.  I’ve lost every one of my brothers and sisters in battle.  I think we can resolve our differences without strong magic and fields of men.”

One of Loralsangti’s allies stood from his seat asked, “Please, come quickly to the point we are all interested in your idea”

“Very well”, said Loralsangti, “I propose we settle our differences with contests of skill and power.  Fielding man against man, creature against creature, will settle differences between Nobels and common man alike.”

Loralsangti strolled along the side of table, “I came up with this simple idea by watching my own Dragons fight for dominance and to resolve conflicts between their own.  I studied them and found there were rules to avoid frivolity and unbalanced matches.  It all seemed civilized, perhaps something civilized men, like ourselves, could use.”

Thus the law-of-combat was born, given name by those who inspired the Loralsangti:  “Drago-Mon”

Game Mechanics:

This is a AD&D 2nd Edition game.  However, there will be a few new skills needed to represent trainer and monster characteristics needed for a great "Dragon-mon" battle!

Characters:

Here are some descriptions of the characters:

Macazena (Minotaur Warrior):  Minotaur warior who takes great pleasure in joining the competition as an individual participant.  She is strong and very proud of her skills in the trial-of-trials.   Although, Macazena has a Drago-mon companion, it is rarely used in any competition unless demanded by arbiter of the Equitas Auctoritas.

Aserius (Human Priest):  Aserius comes from an order of priest dedicated to the way of Drago-mon.  He is a proficient trainer, and a well read scholar of the tournaments and their place in history.  As many historians, he is a purist and trains the same creatures as they did in the earliest days of the battles.  Often weaker than “bread-for-battle” creatures and usually of wild stock, his Drago-mons are some of the most challenging.

Mystic (Human Wizard): Mystic is part of the “Order of Elements”.  Subscribers to this order believe a trainer should focus all energy with a particular type of Drago-mon.  Typically you see wizards with creatures of fire, earth, water, or electricity.  Mystic spends his time researching and training creatures which all have the same abilities.

Specter (Human Rogue):  Specter has a long and nefarious career in the art of acquisition.  He has long since retired from his previous life, but has found that his unique skills translated well into training Drago-mon combatants.

Rockhound (Ogre Druid):  Rockhound is a serious trainer.  Although, considered generous and intelligent…and weak…by others of his kind.  He has a passion for creatures of the woods and natural beasts.

Cinders (Hafling Fighter):  Cinders is slight but intense individual.  He has overcome his small height in large world he inhabits by focusing his energy on massive creatures.  He always travels with his favorite creature at the ready and rarely engages in battle without his creatures.  He is a gifted master and handles the greatest of creatures easily.

Stalone (Half-Elf Mage):  Stalone is the most passionate competitor of the group.  He mixes and matches Drago-mon to maximize his advantage.  He is not above attempting to push the letter of the Equitas Auctoritas to the limit.  After all, it is the judge’s responsibility to keep it fair.

Brook (Dwarven fighter):  Brook is the most famous of Dwarven Drago-mon trainers.  She has lived by the strict tenants of the league of the underworld kingdoms.  This includes unwavering adherence to choosing creatures that can battle in the deep pits within the mountains.
